Spirits – Wine – Beer

…and a Reykjavik weekend

Drinking in Reykjavik may take your entire savings account, very expensive twenty dollars for a vodka martini (vodka kokkteill). Buying spirits at the local liquor store is the cheapest way to get your buzz on. The nightlife in Reykjavik resembles that of a trendy European club scene. Nice dress, fancy shoes and sexy drinks. It all occurs between the Friday evening and ending late Sunday morning.

Icelanders work very hard and play even harder. Weekends seem as though they are the last days on earth, an explosion of beautiful wild partiers. Friday nights go like this, dinner entertainment than lounge drinking. Saturday nights start around 11 pm and go till 6 in the morning. Saturday night is when windows get broken, beer bottles broken along the streets and panties thrown onto roofs.

By Sunday the streets smell of beer and smoke. Plastic cups full of mixed drinks and beer line windowsills and trash cans. If you wake before street cleaning the city will still be asleep. And if your wallet took a hit be careful of buying a cup kaffi.
